Edison provides accurate, timely market intelligence on off-grid electrification via sophisticated, automated data collection, analysis and visualisation.
Comprehensive, timely data is essential to make sound decisions, accurately analyse trends, and track progress.
The core of the Edison platform is a cloud-hosted database receiving daily posts via an Application Programming Interface (API) of sales, payment, geographic and demographic data from market participants in various off-grid electrification programmes.
We turn raw and original data into decision-support services:
for off-grid electrification programmes
Through donations from the Swedish government and development by REEEP, Edison is available for public benefit for off-grid electrification programmes. Programme managers, donors and governments will find substantial advantages over manual period reporting by participants, supporting confident decision-making.
for the off-grid industry and financial institutions
We can provide actors such as industry associations, financial institutions and investors with the necessary intelligence to support off-grid markets. The millions of data points in the Edison database, collected in near real-time, allow us to generate meaningful KPIs and run detailed analyses.
for policy-makers and public purpose data-users
We can provide detailed data to allow policy-makers at national level to shape appropriate enabling environments for their off-grid industry, and to international organisations tasked with monitoring progress against SDG 7, as well as to universities and other public-purpose data users.
In 2016, Beyond the Grid Fund for Zambia (BGFZ) was launched by the Swedish Embassy in Lusaka with the aim to radically expand access to clean off-grid energy, such as solar home systems and mini-grids, in rural and peri-urban Zambia, with the ultimate aim of connecting one million Zambians to modern energy services.
The Rural Electrification Authority of Zambia (REA) is the focal point for a number of initiatives besides BGFZ that will allow energy service providers to reach thousands of new customers in rural and peri-urban areas. REEEP is working with REA to use Edison to monitor these initiatives.
